Our Full Story
We are Jewel and Amanda, the two American teachers behind The Language Den. The Den was inspired by wanting to build something that will be useful, something that will contribute to the community, and providing a space where people can enjoy learning. Our classes are motivational, supportive, creative and fun. Instead of just another English academy here in Valencia, we aim to create a community center with classes and activities for all ages. We love Valencia and want to have a positive impact on the community. Our goal is to bring people together.
Amanda
Amanda has been living outside of the United States since 2013. She fell in love with teaching and traveling. She has been teaching for twelve years, beginning the journey in 2012, in Washington, DC. In 2013, Amanda moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she completed the CELTA.
A year later she decided to move to Europe; first to Budapest, Hungary, and in 2018, Valencia became her home.
Along the way, Amanda started her first business in Honolulu, Hawaii.
In 2023 she opened Little Star English Center here in Valencia. She has taught art and English to private students of all ages, in international kindergartens, academies, art studios, and schools around the world.
Teaching comes naturally to Amanda and she believes that learning should be fun and interactive. As a teacher, she’s found the most success by putting those two things together to create a unique and enjoyable learning experience.
Jewel
Jewel moved to Spain from her home state of California.
She studied history and education and was part of the Auxiliary program; which is what brought her to Spain in 2021.
Since moving to Spain, Jewel has worked in high schools and academies in Vitoria, Gijon, and in Valencia. Working in schools and academies here in Spain, she was able to find her personal style of teaching. Jewel loves to create engaging, interactive, and relatable lesson plans for her students. She wants students to enjoy their time in class and feel comfortable speaking in their non-native language.
Together, we share a passion for teaching and believe that learning should be fun. The Den is a unique language school which caters to all ages, offering a creative, engaging, and supportive approach to learning.
At The Den, students experience the joy of learning through creative methods which makes each lesson memorable and fun. Our dedication to fostering a positive, inclusive environment has established The Den as a place where language learning goes beyond textbooks, encouraging students to explore, interact, and thrive in a supportive community, while being immersed in the language.
